Aluminium is one of the most abundant metals in the world and is known for being lightweight, strong and corrosion-resistant. Although untreated aluminium profiles are sufficient for many applications, there are many valid reasons to apply surface treatments to aluminium. These include colouring, improving corrosion resistance and surface hardness, preventing wear, and enhancing reflectivity.

ANODIZING

 

Anodizing and electrostatic powder coating are different processes, but both are high-quality finishes widely used for aluminium extrusions.

Anodizing is an electrochemical process that creates a protective oxide layer on the surface of an extruded aluminium profile. This layer increases corrosion and wear resistance while providing a durable and decorative surface finish.

For indoor aluminium extrusion applications, the anodized layer is typically between 5 and 15 microns, while for outdoor applications it ranges from 15 to 25 microns.

 

ELECTROSTATIC POWDER COATING

 

Electrostatic powder coating is one of the most widely used surface treatments for aluminium profiles. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Applied to aluminium profiles for both decorative and protective purposes, this finish is produced by electrostatically charging a powder composed mainly of finely ground resin and pigments, spraying it onto the profile, and curing it in an oven to form a smooth coating.

Key advantages of electrostatic powder coating include suitability for all weather conditions, excellent adhesion and processability, outstanding resistance to UV radiation and corrosion, and high colour consistency.
